O is for outings that are a tad unusual.
Letter O
A good moment is as simple as juxtaposition. Sunlight through a leaf, a bird on a hood of a car. The same way some of us love people watching, I’m on the lookout for unusual juxtaposition.
Los Angeles is a hub of contrasting elements. In the Hollywood Hills, sirens and coyote yips blend together. It’s a city where authentic bohemians and the plastic-injected cohabit without ever running into each other because they divide their respective territories into the east and west sides.
I, on the other hand, have reason to roam both directions — east for the art, west for the ocean.
Unusual juxtaposition is everywhere. Like always, I try to capture the moments and their effect on me in words and pictures.
For example, maybe they have random outdoor yoga where you live, but I hadn’t seen it like this before and ended up watching fascinated for half an hour while passing through a west side mall.
Meanwhile, in the artsy east of Los Angeles, musical events with expert plugged-in audio take place nestled in the brush on people’s decks. These pictures look like they were captured by someone who snuck in and kept hidden. I was invited, but live music in unusual places feels forbidden, and forbidden is somehow extra tasty.
Speaking of forbidden, the below picture was on a Tuesday and a school night. I’ve forgotten the band, but even taken in low light on a bad phone, it makes me remember I was happy that night. Or maybe I find some satisfaction in the symmetry of silhouettes centuring the artist and all that fuchsia. I’ll take satisfaction however it comes.
Sidewalk petals in the rain. Sunflowers and street signs. Caged palm trees. Contrasting juxtaposition everywhere you look.
And contentment.

I love how artistic your photos are. They’re a breath of fresh air and some of my favorites to see on Instagram.
But of course you see the world in this beautiful way š
Are all pics taken on a cellphone camera? I love the petals on the wet sidewalk.
Yeah, they are. Some of them have been through Instagram filters, so it makes them look better, much as I hate to admit it. But the wet petals — there was nothing you could do to make them look bad.
damn you give good photo…..
